Three ways to start at Kyoto Station
The ticket handed to you at the station
H.I.S. sells its Hiroshima day with a return Shinkansen from Kyoto as an option on the same product page as the Hiroshima start. One guest who booked the Kyoto option in October 2026 described finding the staff member who handed out the Shinkansen tickets at Kyoto Station without trouble, followed by a guide in Hiroshima who explained clearly where and when to meet. H.I.S. puts no guide on the train; the guide takes over at Hiroshima Station. Museum, shrine, ferry and an okonomiyaki lunch are in every option. Free cancellation on the train package ends 7 days before the tour, which is earlier than on most day tours.
JTB runs its own version from Kyoto with the Shinkansen included. It is listed at 13 hours and 20 minutes, ten minutes longer than the same tour from Osaka. Our source for this tour covers the duration and the train; lunch and the museum visit are described on its booking page.
Train tickets in your inbox, guide in Hiroshima
Amigo Tours Japan sends the Shinkansen tickets for its Kyoto trip the evening before. You board at Kyoto Station on your own, and the guide meets you at bus stops 8 and 9 in Hiroshima. The Peace Memorial Park part carries a surcharge, and free cancellation runs until 24 hours before the start. This version suits travellers who already know how reserved Shinkansen seats work and do not need company on the train.
A van from your Kyoto hotel
Travel Club Japan picks you up at your hotel in Kyoto and drives the whole way in a private van for up to six people. There is no train, a driver instead of a guide, and a convenience-store bento for lunch. Expect about three and a half hours on the road in each direction. The price is for the vehicle, which makes it easier to compare per family than per person.

Buying your own ticket from Kyoto
A tour from Hiroshima Station works from Kyoto too, if you arrange the train yourself. Japan Panoramic Tours, the most-reviewed day tour on this site, meets on the second floor of Hiroshima Station at the north exit and asks guests coming from Kyoto or Osaka to book a return train leaving after 18:30. Add the time from Hiroshima back to Kyoto, and you are at your hotel late in the evening. The advantage is choice: an earlier or later train, or a night in Hiroshima and the island the next morning. Tours that start at Hiroshima Station compares every meeting point there.
With a Japan Rail Pass the train choice from Kyoto narrows. The fastest Nozomi trains need an extra ticket with the pass, and the Sakura trains, which are covered, begin at Shin-Osaka rather than Kyoto, so pass holders often change there. JR Pass and the Shinkansen sets out which trains the pass covers.
Before you pick a date
The tours from Kyoto reach Miyajima at fixed times, so whether the torii stands in the water is down to the tide that day. One guest on the H.I.S. package found low tide on the island. If you can move your trip by a day, compare the tide times at the torii first.
When a day trip from Kyoto is too long
The guided days from Kyoto run up to 12 hours on the H.I.S. tour and longer on the JTB package. With small children or a tight schedule the next day, a night in Hiroshima splits the trip in two: the Peace Memorial Park in the afternoon, Miyajima early the next morning when the shrine opens at 6:30.
A quieter day in Kyoto afterwards
After a long train day, many travellers keep the next one in Kyoto slow. Our sister site lists tea ceremonies in Kyoto, from short sessions to longer ones with a kimono.
